Recipes to Flip and Pop

It’s probably not just in my part of the country that unwanted seasonal afflictions have been striking and spreading lately. Because there’s something comforting about reaching for dōTERRA On Guard® oil when someone in my household needs extra immune support, I decided to look for some tasty recipes that utilize this protective blend of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary oils. In my opinion, some of the best essential oil DIYs out there are the edible ones! We’ll walk through a heartwarming homemade pancake recipe, perfect for the season, and then touch on a quick and poppable snack for later in the day.

Let me start by saying that if the idea of making homemade pancakes automatically turns you off to the following recipe, take heart. Go ahead and adapt it for use with your favorite dry pancake mix, mixing in the essential oils with the wet ingredients. While some of us delight in scratch baking, others rely on convenient pre-made mixes. Getting into the kitchen to create goodness for our loved ones takes on different forms, and I just had to get that disclaimer out there. Okay, now to whip up a batch of these Protective Blend Pancakes, you’ll need:

• 2 ripe bananas

• 1 cup oatmeal

• 1 cup flour

• 1/4 cup brown sugar

• 2 teaspoons baking powder

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1 drop Cinnamon Bark oil

• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

• 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt

• 3/4 cup milk

• 2 eggs

• 1/4 cup canola oil

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

• 2-4 drops dōTERRA On Guard, to taste

Mash bananas in medium mixing bowl. Mix in yogurt, milk, eggs, canola oil, vanilla, and On Guard oil. In a large mixing bowl, add oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, Cinnamon oil, and walnuts (if using); mix well. Add banana mixture to dry ingredients, being careful to avoid over-mixing. Spray griddle with non-stick spray, then use small ladle to scoop out mixture onto griddle. Cook on medium to high heat as you would regular pancakes, waiting for bubbles to appear before flipping.

These flavorful flapjacks are perfect for fall, and there’s no need to put them in the breakfast- only box. Mix up the meal pattern by preparing and enjoying a warm stack at any time of day! You’ll feel good about the immune support offered by the sweet combination of comfort food and the spicy, protective oils found within On Guard.

For a snack along these same lines, get some High Powered Popcorn popping! You’ll need:

• 1 cup popcorn kernels

• 1/4 cup unrefined coconut oil

• 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

• 5-6 drops On Guard Protective Blend

• 2-3 drops Cinnamon Bark oil

• Ground cinnamon, to taste

• Salt, to taste

Air-pop your popcorn and place in a large mixing bowl. Melt coconut oil, then remove from heat and stir in maple syrup and essential oils. Pour mixture over popcorn, tossing and mixing as you go. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and salt before mixing thoroughly. Don’t have an air popper? Just make your popcorn however you normally do, adapting the recipe to your particular popping process. Enjoy!

This pepped up popcorn makes for a healthy and welcoming after-school snack, as well as a tasty treat for a movie night with friends celebrating the weekend. Trying out these recipes for pancakes and popcorn is a fun, easy way to experience the healthy internal benefits of On Guard, dōTERRA’s beloved protective blend. It’s one thing we actually want to spread this season!
